TeamXW.com 1999-2008
I put to rest one of my favorite projects of all time today. A once very popular videogame community from 1999 has finally disappeared from the earth. I loved having something that gave me a sense of leadership but as people grow older so do their hobbies. Don’t get me wrong, I will most likely never stop gaming, but alot of people have. The community went from massive amounts to almost nothing over a span of many years. I miss the people the most; they came from all over, they mini map we had showed them from as far as Spain, but mostly concentrated around the Midwest. We all gathered to do one thing, to play video games online. Using our voice chat and our irc and our forums we were even able to communicate out of game. It was truly a great time. Now I guess its time to move on, to find other opportunities and put to rest one of the best pieces of my life.
I leave you with some of the great memories TeamXW.com brought to me.
A great logo, made during my first semester as a graphics arts student. I was to make up a fake company and design a logo and letterhead for that company. When I explained that I already had a company and it actually brought in about 200 dollars a month on its own, he was quite surprised.
Someone sent this to me as a screenshot for a contest we had.
Before every match we always made a triangle and all pressed our mics to show who was there for the match. This was before OGL and the screenshot rules.
During the screenshot I always got shot in the face for some reason
The always full server.
The kid that agreed to write xw on his face in permanent marker just to get in. He was so annoying we kicked him out the next day.
And finally I present to you the TeamXW Memories movie V 2.0

The youtube version seemed to have been removed… most likely because of the music being played?

I never was a real part of an online community like that, but I did play online with Counterstrike, Team Fortress, and Soldier of Fortune among others from time to time in college. I definitely saw just how much community there really was though. It was awesome!
