Top Favorite Websites I Dont Use Anymore

Mar 30, 2008 in Rants, Tech/Nerdy

We all have them; site that you used to always visit but now find yourself never going to them again.

Stage 6

Why did I go to it?
This one used to house a huge collection of full documentaries as well as high quality music video’s and everything else under the sun.

Why I dont anymore?
The site shut it down. Apparently they couldnt handle the bandwidth. Funny how I never seen a slowdown or a blank screen once while going to the site. More commonly they shut it down to avoid copyright issues.

EbaumsWorld

Why did I go to it?
This one was simple. I had a need to see funny video’s and they housed them all. EbaumsWorld had video’s, images, soundboards, you name something funny, it had it.

Why I dont anymore?
Nothing original was worth a damn from that site. Ebaum started ripping his headline funnies from other peoples sites instead of relying on his submissions. This drove out traffic from other sites that had the original content. It frustrated me how he used such shady tactics to drive traffic. Ripping off website originals for his own site is pretty lame.

Candystand

Why did I go to it?
Back in highschool candystand was the best. You go spend a few hours in the library playing a shockwave version of mini golf and not do anything productive.

Why I dont anymore?
I have a real computer, with real games. Candystand doesnt appeal to me anymore because if I am bored, I simply play something real. Now that I am not in highschool anymore I dont have to pretend to be productive.

Gamespy Arcade

Why did I go to it?
Before videogames had ingame browsers, it was up to us to find the ip’s of people hosting game servers. Gamespy arcade was perfect for this. They even had a nice application that let you use voicechat and play in chatrooms. Eventually they even started making there own minigames for the less hardcore gamer.

Why I dont anymore?
Simple. All games that have multiplayer have their own ingame browser. Granted most still use gamespy technology, they dont require a website or seperate software to launch a game. My new gamespy equivalent would have to be steam. With its many features and stable titles, I dont think I will be moving away from it any time soon.

Albino Black Sheep

Why did I go to it?
The source for funny flash animations and games. Everyone who created flash games went to this site.

Why I dont anymore?
I could care less. The site is rarely updated anymore, and most of the stuff is complete junk.

Newgrounds

Why did I go to it?
More funny flash things. Thankfully flash was new, easy, and allowed common people to create some completely hilarious stuff.

Why I dont anymore?
When things get popular, often the quality suffers.

YTMND

Why did I go to it?
YOU THE MAN NOW DOG was hilarious. It sported a feater that allowed anyone to upload a single image as well as a single song. This created some hilarious internet mimes.

Why I dont anymore?
Once again, it got popular and everyone, including the unfunny started uploading things. You can go on the site right now and try and find something funny, instead you will find the daily and weekly favorites completely unfunny.

Ask Jeeves

Why did I go to it?
The best search site at the time.

Why I dont anymore?
Google? Need I say more?

I am sure there are plenty more, but I just cant think of them.
