Being from the Midwest I and loving big city life, I have grown to love food more than anyone I know. I still have a phobia of vegetables but that doesn’t stop me from loving some of the most hole in the wall foods that you may have never tried.

The Horse-Shoe

This delight was started in my home town and is a giant ammount of heart attack on a plate.

Wikipedia defines this as:

The horseshoe sandwich originated in Springfield, Illinois. This open-faced sandwich begins with thick-sliced toasted sourdough bread, and a couple of hamburger patties or ham. The meat is topped with french fries and smothered with a “secret” cheese sauce. With its many variations, it is a local favorite not often found outside Central Illinois. It also sometimes known as the freedom sandwich.

I define it as yummy. I usually get mine from a local place that serves it with shaved honey ham instead of hamburger. Breakfast can be served the same way at alot of these places, replacing the fries with hashbrowns and the cheese with gravy.

Crab rangoon are deep-fried dumplings served in American Chinese, and more recently, Thai restaurants, stuffed with a combination of cream cheese, lightly flaked crab meat (more commonly, canned crab meat or imitation crab meat), with scallions and/or garlic. These fillings are then wrapped in Chinese wonton wrappers in a triangular or flower shape, then deep fried in vegetable oil.

I eat these things only at a specific place in town (which happens to be all the way on the other side of town…grr) because they are the only ones I have been able to find that make them sweet. I love getting them with a really spicy dish and use them to cut down on the heat when it gets to be too much.

Creamed Chipped Beef and Toast (more commonly called shit on a shingle)

Chipped beef is a dried, smoked, and salted meat product. The modern product consists of small, thin, flexible leaves of partially dried beef, generally sold compressed together in jars or flat in plastic packets. Hormel describes it as “an air-dried product that is similar to bresaola, but not as tasty.

Chipped beef is served in many diners and restaurants as a breakfast item. Notably, most diners sell chipped beef on toast, particularly in the northeast United States. Creamed chipped beef is standard fare on many diner menus, especially in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, but has become harder to find in chain restaurants that serve breakfast; among the restaurants still offering chipped beef on toast are Golden Corral, and Silver Diner. IHOP no longer offers this on their menus, having substituted sausage gravy, and the same is true for Cracker Barrel restaurants. It is also available from companies such as Stouffer’s in a frozen form which can be put on top of separately-prepared toast; it is considerably salty in taste. The mixture was also, at one point, available from both Freezer Queen and Banquet as “hot sandwich toppers”; as of Fall 2007, Freezer Queen has gone out of business, and the Banquet variety is rarely found. Finally, several companies make a refrigerated version of cream chipped beef. The meat itself is available for purchase separately as well.

Its easy, its warm and it tastes pretty good. I am actually eating this right now to keep me warm. I should take the time now to say that I am sorry for not posting in forever. I am still trying to get over a cold I got as of last week. I also started a new job (amazing and fun job none the less) at the same time that kind of threw me for a loop.

Meat Eaters Salad

I actually made this one up.. but it should be tried! Everyone I know always gets a salad when they go out.. and since I like to start off light too I developed a yummy way to do so. This only works at buffets but I basically get a soup bowl and fill the bottom with cottage cheese. I then cover that with a bit of shredded cheddar, croutons, and those tiny little hams that are in the salad bar. For some reason I cant get enough of it but I never made this one at home because where would I find tiny processed cubed hams of that low of a quality?

Papa Johns Grilled Chicken Pizza

I first tried this as there BBQ pizza special. Word of advice.. don’t ever buy the bbq pizza.. it tasted more nasty than anything I could ever imaging. One good thing did come from it.. the grilled chicken was an excellent accompaniment with mozzy cheese and normal sauce. Most of the time when I order there, I always get half peperoni, half grilled chicken.

In Conclusion

I would like to get some of your guys guilty pleasures that I may have never tried but would love to experience. Leave a comment with a link or a description of your item and I will check it out!
