My Digg Manifesto
Below is a list of things I would like to see die in a hurry on digg. I joined digg because I like how it was balanced and that regular people could submit things and get the word out if it was good.
1. Diggers who only digg to support a user. If their post sucks.. it still makes the front page because a mass of idiots decided it so.
Simple fix.. give everyone a points system… have everyone have the same amount of voting power per day. Give everyone credit points to spend on what you think is the best of that day.. have them be able to roll over to the next day and have it so you could spend only one point per topic still.
2. Stop reposting shit thats already been seen years ago. Yes I know not everyone has seen it in their lifetime.. but if its that popular that it needs to be seen again.. you will eventually stumble upon it again while browsing.
Make a category on digg in the pictures section called classic so I can remove it from my feed. All those who still want it, can have it.
3. Digg hero’s. I am tired of everyone following on the coattails of the giant names in the digg world.
Remove shouts to all users… seriously, shouts are just spam mail and its pretty bad. I cant have “friends” without accepting tons of spam. If you want to keep shouts.. how about using those points/credits I talked about earlier… if it really is such a good article, maybe it should cost you your saved up digg credits.
Make it so you cant see the submitter of the article until you have dugg it. Think about it.. if you dont know who posted it, then your entire bias is on the article. This is how the system should work anyway.
4. Add more time on the page timeout..
I sit and actually read articles before I digg them… I know… crazy right? By the time I get back to the digg page and hit the digg button, its already timed out and I have to refresh the page just to digg one article… then the are all moved down because of new material…
5. Highlight a user a day.
Give an underdog some credit once a day. Add some code (i know its hard) that shows an individuals doing his job and finding good articles and submitting them. This should get the attention we all crave as well as keeping it clean and to the point of the site.

I like the idea of highlighting a user a day. That would be pretty encouraging to users who are new or just can’t get any attention.
