My car has decided to start giving me more greif than I could handle. The car was on its 15th year and because of this, things were starting to wear down. I love the car but the problems were giving me more to resent about my car than I could handle. When I bought it, it had a suspension problem andno AC. These were both fine, the first could be fixed and the 2nd…well I have never had AC in a car in my life.
The suspension problem cost me $25 to fix and I loved the car. Even when winter hit and I couldnteven move my car from a half an inch of snow. You see, the car had a all aluminum v8 with dual overhead cams… it was a lincoln, it had all the extras and was a limited edition. What more could you want?
Here’s a few pics of my car:
The car even had a new engine.. you see when I drove to seatle from IL I decided I would get an oil change for the trip back just to be safe. Jiffy Lube decided to leave the old gasket on my car and I leaked oil for the 3 blocks I got before the car completely died. To avoid a lawsuit Jiffy Lube was going to buy me a new car… but I only had this car a year and I loved the car…andknowing them they would have giving me blue book dollar and I would have been SOL. I had so many extras on that car.. under body, lowered, sub system.
I made them crate me a new engine, and the old engine was on 120,000 miles so I was completely fine with that.
The engine was so powerful that when someone drove my car in the snow, they blew it up in reverse. Good times.
But alas, I started working and my car started being parked in places I didn’t want them to be at night. Someone tried to break in and literally broke the handle off the car. The sub-woofer had a tendency to vibrate the rear view mirror off. It even cracked the front glass at one point (the rear glass is siliconed on and tinted for extra support).
Small problems I could deal with, but then I saw that the rocker panels were starting to rust… $300 a side for a car that blue books for $1000 isnt that great of a deal. The transmission again is starting to wear down (im pretty hard on cars.. if they are fast I constantly want reminded of it). The car just overall started to make me mad and the fact that I had a motorcycle I didnt treasure the car as much.
At this point I started looking for a replacement.
I started looking at cars I could use to take people and stuff to lans and be able to haul. I decided on either a jeep or a dodge magnum. I leaned more towards the magnum because the jeep gets expensive for the type of jeep I want… you know.. the Rubicon.
Wench, Liftkit and nice tires all from the manufacturer. Expensive..
So I decided on a wagon with a hitch, that way I can haul my bike as well as my other crap.
The problem was all the ones I could find were v6′s! NO I want a v8 Dammit. So I shopped around, and found one I really liked in the city of St. Louis. It was custom painted, had aftermarket paint, was lowered with viper suspension, Magnaflow exhaust, and had a HyperChip in it.
All for a pretty damn low price. I knew the car wasnt going to last that long, so I called my bank, and figured out how much they would loan me. Since I have no credit, and my only proof is my bike payment I have been making I was waiting for bad news. Well apparently I now have average credit and they were willing to give me 85% of NADA.com’s retail price on any car I pick used… Awesome.
So I talk to the dealer and get him to lower the price to the asking price without tax title and license fees minus 200 off the sticker. Its pretty good but after going over the figures I am still like $200 short.
I had to wait that night hoping my paycheck was going to be more than I thought.. it wasnt. What was I to do? Well, I got my car appraised for a trade in, and they told me they would give me $300 for it literally, I told them that was insulting and left. Well I thought about that and called the dealer that morning 2 mins after it opened and asked him if he would give me $600 credit if I drove it up there. He said “HELL YES, that’s a bad ass car, I wanabuy it” Which got me excited. I know marks are hard to find, but didnt know the actual dealer would want the car. He said he will hold an auction on the car between himself and the dealer and give me the best price.
Fast forward 2 hours and me in st. louis. As soon as I arrive they put me in the car and tell me to take it on a test drive.. I ask where I am supposed to park my car.. because there is no parking…he tells me to parallel park down the street… I live in a corn field and have only parallel parked once in my life and that was during the drivers ed test in which I got marked off for not doing right.
The dealer parks my car..
We get in the magnum, I start it and smile…I didn’t know it had aftermarket exhaust on it, it wasnt mentioned in the add.
He tells me we are going to take it on a route that will let me “really open it up” I tell him that his definition of fast isnt the same as mine. (Keep in mind I drove to Seattle in 15 hours at 120 cruise or more)
He says its ok. We get to a 30 MPH road and he tells me to really open it up… so I do. I put the pedal down as far as she will go and dont left off.. I start swerving between cars at about 80 MPH. At this point the guy grabs the dash, I look over to laugh and I notice we aren’t on the ground anymore. I look forward as we land andthe bottom of the car clashes with the street.
I laugh again and tell him its ok, I am buying it regardless.
After doing all the paper signing it turns out I failed at math and have to give him $70 cash to make up for the money I didnt add to the bank check and he hands me the keys.
Say hello to my new baby:

Lol dude, nice story. My dad’s wanting my first car to be one that has problems so I can fix it up and actually call it mine. I still need to do drivers ed and get my license. I seriously can’t wait to be able to drive wherever. That dodge looks freaking nice though.
I agree 100 percent with your dad. If you like to fiddle with things, its the best way to go. My first car barely ran and had no speakers. I fixed it up and because I did, I knew it inside and out and got to make it my style. I got my first car for free because it was struck by lightning!
Im pretty sure it was the only champaign (pink!) car with a v8 cobra engine and straight pipes. Good times.
I’ve always loved Rubicon’s as well. Nice new ride man!
