Diet tiem?

Well I guess im testing out dieting. Today I brought food instead of eating from the cafeteria. Usually I eat from the on campus cafeteria here at work and there selection is really crappy. Most of the time I end up getting the fried foods or make myself a giant sandwich. This is less than healthy for me obviously.

Today I thought I would try something new. I still wanted to feel satisfied, but instead of eating about 3 pounds of chicken strips and bbq, I thought I would fill my stomach with healthy things instead. This is one of my first meals without meat, so even though my stomach is saying its full, it doesnt feel the same.

What did I bring to eat?

1. A thing of 90 minute rice from uncle bens.
This stuff is actually really good. Its ingrediants are even really good. Its rice, sunflower oil and water. You nuke the pouch for 90 seconds and eat. I was more than happy with that. Its healthy too.

Calories: 440

2. A rice cake.
This thing was the filler. They put waay to much salt on it but I was eating it to fill my stomach.. so yea.

Calories: 45

3. Two Healthy Choice Roasted Almond Bars
These things are delisious and I ate two of them throughout today. They are really crunchy, but apparently they arent that good for you.

Calories: 380

So how does this all weigh in?
Total Calories: 865

How does this compare? Well according to the site for nutrition, I eat about 12 chicken strips and that shows up about 1000 calories. Plus the calories for the BBQ sauce. To tell you the truth, its not much of a difference, this diet thing isnt going to work is it?

That is a step in the right direction for eating better. As far as feeling full, you get that mostly from foods with a lot of protein in it. That comes in meat. So, instead of a bunch of chicken fingers, what about some grilled chicken or maybe just a sandwich with a lot of meat on it. Believe it or not, you can eat pretty darn healthy that way!

@adam: The sad thing was, it estimated the same calories… made me mad.. but was still a decent meal.

It WILL make a difference, regardless of calories. Have you even noticed that vegetarians/vegans are a million times more healthy then carnivorous America?

The calories in meat are almost completely empty; vegetables and fruits have almost the same amount of calories, but they’re full of nutrients and vitamins. A lot of these nutrients and vitamins help break down the plant proteins that hold it together.

Meat doesn’t have anything but large amounts of protein, and even that’s been disputed scientifically. There’s been high amounts of evidence that it gave you /too/ much protein, and can cause heart problems, strokes, and even impotence. ;)

Meat has also been proven to sit in your colon and rot for large amounts of time, not the healthiest option. Plants break down easily and quickly, and all of the calories are put to good use.

With that also comes severe cruelty to animals. Go to:
      http://meetyourmeat.com/
and watch the video. Plants cannot physically feel pain.

Even if it’s the same (or more) amount of calories, plants and rice are much healthier. Your diet will still work if you avoid meat.

@Queue: You seen “The Happening?” Those plants were really pissed off at us.

I have seen the site and I am still not ready to give up meat. Every business has shady practices (Sweatshops? Quality Control?) and yes it does suck.. but I still wouldnt be able to get by without chicken… its in almost every one of my meals.

The post does give me an idea… maybe I should start taking vitamins… it couldnt hurt.

@KrAzE: That’s fine, you don’t need to give up chicken. But people that have given up nothing but beef/fish/turkey (except on Thanksgiving) have noticed tremendous weight advantages.

And no, vitamins couldn’t do anything but help - but thoroughly look the brand up. A ton of store-shelf brands have shady techniques; some vitamins don’t even absorb into your bloodstream at all.

@Queue: Yea, I just got done watching a documentary on all this stuff and it really opened my eyes.
